30 day photo challenge
day #13: yourself with 13 things
obviously, whoever came up with this photo challenge is not superstitious! asking us to find 12 or 15 things would be more comfortable karma, don’t you think? however, i do like how “13 things” matches up with today’s calendar date (the 13th day of the month/june!).
this is another assignment for which i debated and cast aside a few ideas. should i pick thirteen running-related items? thirteen different knitting needles? thirteen books from my personal library? nah, those are all topics we’ve covered before…i wanted something !!unique!! and !!RANDOM!! random, random, what would be the most random things to show…
(source)
i didn’t even need to leave the kitchen to complete this task!
meet my junk drawer:
you cannot get more random than the spot where you toss everything that you don’t know what to do with!
i rifled through the assortment of *treasures* and had to laugh because i found some stuff that i had forgotten about, and other items that i have no clue as to why i kept them!
in terms of designing the photo, my initial idea was to place my head in the centre of the snapshot, with the 13 items all around, then do a self-portrait. but, i wasn’t jazzed about all the planning involved (i envisioned cutting out a cardboard copy of my head, placing it on the floor so i would know how much space i would need, setting out the objects, removing the fake head, inserting my real head, figuring out at what arm’s length the camera needed to be held…blech, too much co-ordination!).
still, taking this picture was a lot tougher than anticipated!
effort #1:
i felt like i was in a pilates class, that’s how much i had to tilt back and stabilize my middle in order to get everything into the frame!

effort #3:
here, then, is our official photo of the day:
for the explanation, we’ll go around in a circle, starting at my right foot and moving clockwise, then down the centre:
#1: red dice that says “caesar’s windsor” on it. when was i in a casino in windsor??!
#2: box of extra keys – i put this together after a key-loss scare a few years ago!
#3: old cell phone + case – why did i keep this??
#4: box of matches – love the cute design on the box!
#5: pretty pen – but it needs an ink cartridge refill!
#6: instructions for how to make green bin liners out of newspaper – i do need/use that!
#7: busted ipod shuffle – why did i keep this?
#8: my collection of business cards/contact information – should be weeded out
#9: sample size face cream with SPF – forgot about this!
#10: tennis ball – to roll/sit on if i feel a tight spot in my glutes
#11: pretty kleenex from mom, xmas stocking giftie – too cute to use!
#12: a hair clip – should be upstairs with the others
#13: gina‘s oldest son’s birth announcement – um, little h is now SIX!
you’d think this photo-taking venture would have inspired me to take twelve minutes and clean out the drawer while it was open – nope! after the photoshoot, i simply dumped all thirteen items right back in!

i know we’ve talked junk storage before, but oh well…
where’s your “junk drawer,” and what are three items in it, currently? even neat freaks need a junk drawer! what you can’t see doesn’t exist -> that’s my theory!
have you ever watched the tv show hoarders? me=no. but i am interested in the psychology behind hoarding!
