Three Questions Thursday!

Good day to you!

I’ve got three decisions to make, and have decided to solicit opinions.

1) Nails??

I got my nails applied done 3.5 weeks ago. I’ve since re-learned how you have to type when you have claws at the ends of your fingertips, and I’ve gotten quite attached to my beauties. But they’ve got a shelf-life of 4-6 weeks. I am leaving on a week’s vacation this weekend. It’s a tropical climate, and the nails would fit right in. However, they are definitely on their last legs/looking stale:

can you make out the new nail growth?? i've got about 3 mm of bare nails which have emerged...

As well, the turquoise blue colour is fading at the nail tips.

I’m going to have to get them removed professionally as I really don’t relish the idea of plying off fake nails with my bare hands.

Question: Would you go before or after the trip to get the nails taken off?

If I go before I depart, I’ll have clean nails for the trip; if I wait til after I get home, I’ll have fun nails that fit in divinely with the vacation surroundings.

2) Dress??

Earlier this week, I was reading Kath’s blog. She was sporting this dress:

It’s by Mahi Gold and I covet it with all my heart.

Kath in the dress:

(Here‘s the blog post where Kath is wearing the dress, as seen above).

I immediately had heart palpatations as this amazing garment cried out to me. ASAP, I emailed Mahi Gold, and inquired about shipping to Canada. Within one hour (talk about wonderful customer service!) Becky replied back that she could indeed get the dress to me, and would even apply the free U.S. shipping credit to the international mailing charge.

Question: would you buy a dress without trying it on?

Everything about this dress screams, “Kiki, wear me!” I love the graphic pattern and the colour; crewneck styles and short skirts suit my body shape. Oh, what to do!

3) Cake??

Tonight is my final Cake Decorating Class! Our task this eve will be to design and decorate a cake with a theme. I’ve got an idea percolating in my head, but am wondering if you have any grandes idées. Here’s my iced cake:

two layers, icing in the middle; the layers ARE supposed to be different sizes - that's how i made 'em!

The purpose of our final challenge is to display the skills we have experimented with acquired over the past three weeks. So I have a clean slate of a cake! And many colours of icing! Let’s think creatively!

Question: what theme do you envision for this cake??

Thanks muchly for any and all ideas/answers you care to share!

I’ll have Cake Class #4 Recap on Saturday!

Re: cake, go floral, but go big! I’m thinking a bright orange hibiscus right in the middle.

I’d never buy a dress without trying it on, but that’s just me!

thanks, stephanie! now kath’s got a 20% off coupon code for the dress!! eesh, what to do…maybe i’ll just procrastinate a few more days!… 🙂 i’ll post about the cake tomorrow…let’s just say it was quite a disappointment! i’ll remember your idea for the future – orange is my fave colour and that would be a very cheery cake! (and i could have used the shaggy decorator tip!!)

I would probably leave the nails till later….they look great and you’ll get to flaunt them around on your vacay 🙂

The dress—I love it! I’ve totally ordered clothes, jeans, dresses online without trying them on. Sometimes it’s a disaster (then I give it to my mom or selling it on ebay)…and other times it’s just perfect 🙂
    Take a chance!

Cake theme—I say you have to really dig deep (or just into your creative center) and do something that just sounds totally fun and awesome to you! I can’t wait to see what you pick! I’d likely do something like ducks or ladybugs. I don’t know why—it just feels manageable and a little bit weird!

    1) I’d probably keep the nails for the trip…just to hold onto them a little longer (to me, the photo looks fine..of course, you haven’t seen my nails.

    2) Buy the dress. When it comes to these clothing decisions, my mom asks me if it’s “love”….to me, it sounds like you “love” the dress. You’ll regret not having gotten it..and if there’s no other opportunity to try it on…take a chance!

    3) I’m afraid I’m just thinking flowers for the cake. Whimsical flowers. [This is probably the least helpful of my responses]

Can’t wait to hear how it turns out!

thanks, zo! 1) leaning towards keeping the nails as they ARE just too fun to not go on vacation! i’ll just make sure no one looks too closely at my fingers! 2) yea, it’s hard to deny strong first reactions – and it was love at first sight! 3) well…i’m back from class now and my cake has flowers on it!! not at all what i intended, though! but it was fun, once again!

that dress is cute! i buy online all the time.

the print and style just caught my eye right away!! very versatile, too – beach to wedding or anything in between!

Ooh! Hard decisions some of them! Especially the nails. But… I’d probably go on the vacation with them as they are right now because I think they are a perfect fit (look) for your vacation choice! (To the average passerby, unless you’re right up close, I don’t think people are going to notice the nail growth.) I’d weigh time spent on getting them re-done vs. time spent preparing for the vacation in other ways in order to decide.
Dress? Fabulous look! Love it! Go for it – esp. if you usually take the same size no matter what the clothing is. It’ll look fantastic on you!
Cake? Hmmm… so many ways to decorate a cake! What about trying a floral theme to go along with your upcoming trip? Use a variety of colours to make it POP and voila! Enjoy, whatever you decide! 🙂

thank you for your input, dear friend!! i appreciate your answers PLUS the reasoning BEHIND your answers! i am thinking i have no time to get the nails taken off before i go, and they are going to have to come along! glad you love the dress! i think i could wear it april-ish – september-ish (??) so would get good wear out of it… i have a cake theme in mind, now… you are on the right track – it is trip-related!

  • Johanna B  On March 3, 2011 at 3:06 pm

If I was making the choices I would have my nails done before the trip, I would order the dress (Kath looks fabulous in it) and I have absolutely no ideas about the cake. Have fun with it.

      Thanks for your answers!
My friend pm’d with her suggestions-they match yours exactly!
I agree-that dress really suits kath! And I like to support companies that provide great customer service.
