Social Sunday

Of all the shifts that I work at the store, the Sunday morning one is my favourite of the week.

I adore my shift because it’s total social time. Every Sunday morning, we offer free practice times for runners and walkers. Over the years, I’ve become friends with regular attendees, and it’s just fun to chat with everyone and anyone who comes out! Typically, about 50-75 people of all ages and abilities gather.

Yesterday, despite the impending thunderstorms and general doom-and-gloom outdoor atmosphere, we had our usual energetic group of walkers and runners in the store.

meet lee and jeannie! hi, lee! 🙂 hi, jeannie??!

Lee and Jeannie love orange – can you tell?! And I love orange! Jeannie used to work part-time at the store, and is very bubbly and outgoing. Lee has a subtle, dry sense of humour that I thoroughly enjoy. Recently, Lee and Jeannie travelled in South America – I need to set up a coffee date to hear some more stories! Lee and Jeannie, it was so great to see you out again!

meet ken!

After retiring from teaching, Ken worked part-time at the store, too. Then he retired from that gig. I miss working with Ken.

Ken has become a true marathon maniac, running several 26.2 mile races per year. On May 2nd, Ken will run the Belfast Marathon, his 3rd ‘thon of 2011 – “just for fun.” That’s because his hard work is done – on March 20, Ken ran in the marathon in Virginia Beach…and qualified for Boston!…by using a run/walk combination approach! I love Ken for his kind manner, and am inspired by his zest for staying fit in retirement.

This afternoon, Mom and Dad K visited!

smile, everyone!

It was lovely to visit in person! Thanks for coming over!

Then this eve, over to my parents I trotted!…

…to play an evening game of Yahtzee!

The winner??? It was not even close…

this was yahtzee #2 of the game! mom and i had no chance...

We consoled ourselves with these beautiful flowers:

if i was celebrity-level rich, i'd have fresh flowers in every room of my home, all the time

My parents hosted Joanne‘s parents for dinner last eve, and the M’s brought this bouquet:

assorted arrangements are so beautiful!

The best of April 10th:

it was warm enough to wear my sugoi capri tights to work for the first time this year!

The worst of April 10th:

ugly leftover snow looks so gross!

Did you enjoy a Social Sunday? Sometimes, it’s also refreshing to experience a Solo Sunday!

Totally love the return of capri weather! Even more exciting will be the return of single-layer weather! I’m still doubling up my tops when I head out for a run these days.

Thanks for stopping by my blog; I agree, not enough knitting runners!!!

…and it’s even warmer today! so fun that warm weather days are ahead – it’s only april!

Yea! Capris! Love them! It’s very spring-like today, but I’m not in capris yet.
Yea! flowers! Love them too! I’m with you on wanting them all over the house! 🙂
Since one of the Running Room stores in Winnipeg is just down the street from us, we see the Sunday morning runners every week as we head to church. Jeff and I always say things to ourselves like, “Way to go runners! Keep up the good work!” We always get a happy feeling seeing the crowd of them. Jeff and I are very much solo runners. We don’t want the crowd. But the group is still neat to see!

the RR runners are even MORE noticeable when they are wearing the ubiquitous reflective jackets! yes, some people need the social support of a group, while others just enjoy the solo time/alone time – and each is good! hope capri-weather is headed your way! 🙂

Ugh – I hate that leftover snow too! I can’t wait for it all to melt.

I had a semi-solo Sunday 🙂 I was home with Jason all day and ran tons of errands — so I didn’t talk to many other people (besides cashiers, etc) but I felt like I was with people all day!

      I hope you’re ugly-snowbank-free very soon! We’re crazy warm today – 70s?? – so I hope there’s zero snow very soon!
Glad you had a good mix of social-solo time yesterday!

Yay for capris!!! I’m sad I can’t make it to the Sunday runs- they seem like they’re a ton of fun!!! They can only get better as it gets warmer 🙂

There was one guy out in shorts and tshirt yesterday – he froze when the hail hit!
If you can ever make it out sunday morning, it would be so fun to see you!

What a fun day! That’s how our Saturdays are at lululemon. We have a free yoga event and it draws a big crowd. Lots of fun and socializing. 🙂 I haven’t worked a Sunday yet at the store, but I have a feeling it’s pretty low-key. Gorgeous flowers, and I’m glad it’s warm enough for you to wear capris!

    • 1970kikiproject  On April 11, 2011 at 11:40 am

I think there are quite a few similarities between RR and lulu! There was a temp lulu store here in waterloo a couple years ago, and they offered the free sunday morning yoga…I never tried it, but it sounds so fun!
I was inspired to include the flowers by your photos last week!

My Sunday was socially active as well. I spent the day with my very pregnant daughter (she’s over 39 weeks)and her husband. We drove out to Lake Shawnee to enjoy the spring sunshine and breezes and to see the tulip gardens. Lovely. Then we dug out some pictures of her babyhood while I enjoyed a period of nostalgia missing those long gone days.

What a wonderful day with your daughter! Glad you could spend quality time together…once the baby arrives, things are sure to get VERY busy!
