A SUPER April Outing with Mom!

After missing out on a March Outing of the Month shopping trip with Mom, I was more than excited for our excursion to the Superstore today. [Not sure why I so rarely get there; it’s a <10 minute drive froom my place!].

a loblaws-affiliated grocery+ store

As a huge fan of Target in the U.S. (won’t that be a jolly day when Target finally arrives in Canada!), our Real Canadian Superstore is the closest approximation, locally, to the drool-worthy American behemoth. But it still falls short.

Mom and I had nothing specific in mind to source out. We just wanted to take a gander at the Joe Fresh clothing, the housewares, the linens, the books, the kids’ department, the health food section…ok, maybe setting aside just an afternoon was being a little optimistic!

feeling fresh and ready to gadabout! this may have been the only moment we interrupted our flow of chatter...

Tempted by the book section – all books are 25% off!

the snooki bookie!!! and i find rebecca eckler a great chronicler - read "knocked up" and "wiped" if you have not already; this is a newer one...

Mom always has a weak spot for pretty table napkins:

at $2 a pack, she should have gotten both patterns! but the checks won out...

PUFFINS SCORE!!!! I pay $4.99 per box at the health food store, but at the Superstore they were on sale – I got all three flavours!

thats $5.50, total, in SAVINGS in my pocket!!!

We didn’t pick up a cart at the entrance because it would be cumbersome to push whilst looking at the clothes, and wandering in the housewares. After our meander through the health foods, we were regretting that decision:

can you say "juggling act?!"

And just for fun, a picture of spring flowers:

easter lilies - so beautiful!

Mom brought me her copy of…

ooooo, cant wait!

I think what I’ll do is finish up Chelsea, put aside Freedom, and devour The Help!

Have you read The Help yet? From blogger comments and reviews (ex: Jenna) I have read, it seems 100% of the population loves this book!

So, thanks, Mom, for the marvelous outing (and for the $4 thong underwear you bought me!) – so glad we are back on track with our shopping!

What’s your favourite all-in-one store? I adore Target, as stated. Not a Zellers fan. Boycott Walmart.

*#*#*#*#*

Social Thursday continued when VFBF Joanne and I rendez-vous’d at The Huether:

two hours of chatting? = not enough time!!!

Not surprisingly, we had a fabulous time.

Dare I start another Outing of the Month?!!

Whoops! Missed reading this blog the other day so I’ll comment late… we live a hop skip and jump away from Superstore so it is our most frequented store of all time. Love it. Love the Joe clothes (although not always the best quality!) and have lots of them. Never go in w/o a shopping cart! I can relate to the “juggling act” for sure!!! 🙂

i love the joe fresh styles and price because i would not feel guilty buying the new styles every year, and updating, because the stuff is so reasonable. i agree – doesn’t appear to be “top quality,” but perfect for being active with your kids, i bet! not a fan of how impersonal “super stores” are, but truly, they are a time saver, and have great prices

Looks like a fun trip to the superstore!

I try to stay away from Target—-I spend so much there. But, they do have awesome clearance sales too…so I don’t stay too far away 🙂

I haven’t read The Help yet, but I’m planning to on one of my vacays this summer!

Hope you have a great night, Cathy!

thanks, lisa – you, too! we should set up a virtual book club for The Help…set a “to read by” deadline, then we all pitch in with our comments! for AFTER summer hols, though – i think i need extra time, too, before i’ll start/finish it! target clearance sales – they prices must be insanely low!! i bet if you pick through, you can score cute stuff for sooo cheap!

I’m beyond excited for Target coming to Canada!
I love superstores, my mum and I drive to the Kitchener location a lot, just to browse around, several items of furniture in my house are from the Loblaws brand 🙂

I know target is starting in the toeonto area when they do arrive…I hope our area(s) get one not too long after that!
You really can get great products for the home at reasonable prices…that’s fun that you go shopping with your mom, too!

I had no idea Target wasn’t in Canada — I love Target and go there for everything. Jason’s brother works for Target Corporate in human resources, so I like to think I’m supporting his brother by shopping there 🙂 (You knew Target is a MN company, right?) 🙂 No wonder it is the greatest place.

I haven’t read The Help but I’ve heard great things!

    Have a great weekend Cathy!

…And I had no idea target originated in minnesota! Yes, you must support the family connection by shopping there, then!
Enjoy your 11 miler tomorrow – hope you ca n get outside!

I’ll confess. I do shop at Wal-Mart on occasion. I don’t drive anymore and I can get there on a bus so I do the bad thing out of convenience. There – I’m an evil person 😉

Your photo of the Easter Lilies reminds me of my mother. She loved it when they were in full bloom in our backyard. When I was a kid I’d watch her staring out the window looking at them. She always had such a wistful look on her face. Remembering that makes me smile. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing your memory of your mom, johanna…I hope you see a lot more easter lilies around this easter season.
No evil since you are taking the bus! That’s a good thing! 🙂
