oftentimes, the week after a holiday monday draaaags by at a snail’s pace. not so, this week!

thursday and friday were each eleven hour work days, split up between the store and theOTHERstore. i genuinely don’t mind that type of schedule because with a break in between shifts and/or a switch of locations, it really splits up the day/eve nicely.

two things:

first, the spring clothing lines are juuuuust starting to arrive! last week, we received…

spring jackets from the rfc (run for the cure) line!

love the detailing on the back!

...and from our in-store clothing line - a turquoise half zip! (there is also a spring jacket that co-ordinates)

now, we just need some SHORTS!

i love when these bright and fresh spring items start arriving – it’s a reminder that march/warmer weather is around the bay around the corner. [sidenote: around the bay is a big race at the end of march, in hamilton; it also signals the change of seasons!].

second: i was going to be oh-so-smart – > all day thursday, the radio announcers kept reiterating that we were going to have a huge! snow! storm! on friday, with 10-15 cm of snow. so i thought it’d be cool to have a before and after photo of the same scene but with drastically different weather conditions. i snapped this photo on thursday at 5:30 p.m.:

exhibit A...

…that scene then looked like this on friday morning at 8 a.m.!

um...where's the heaps of snow?!

and that was the worst of it! now, the day was not nice, yesterday – in fact by last night, the winds were monstrous gusts – but it was definitely bearable! winter, the clock is running out on you!

what signals the arrival of spring for you? roll up the rim, maybe?!! spring training for baseball? *that smell* in the air??!

happy weekend!

such fun! we are receiving boxes full of new product and it’s always fun to see the new colors and designs. I have to restrain myself from buying everything. 🙂 lots of flowers blooming in Dallas these days! and warmer temps.

i am envious of your warmer temps and flowers in dallas!! i fear nyc will be a bit behind! it’s like christmas when the spring stuff arrives! “what do we have here??” i bet the lulu items are delightful!!

I enjoy seeing the first robins of spring looking for worms and insects on my lawn which is just starting to green (which means mowing will come sooner this year). I also like to see the trees starting to bud out which is already happening. I don’t know what happened to winter this year but we haven’t had one.

wow, that is neat that your winter has not been “normal,” either, johanna. we have been so fortunate to have about a 20% winter, maybe?! i will gladly take it. that is cool that you see tress budding already. let me know when you mow the lawn for the first time – maybe april, do you think??!

Well, there was some snow in that picture at least! We had crazy windy weather here yesterday…a few flakes but nothing lasting.
Hmm…I know there are “spring is coming” signs out there, but can’t think of what really gets it rolling (especially since it has been so mild this year..). The fact that we’re now thinking St. Patrick’s Day and Easter is definitely a sign!

    • 1970kikiproject  On February 26, 2012 at 8:23 am

oh, that is a good point, zo! holidays – yes!! when we have special occasions to look forward to, those are calendar benchmarks. makes me laugh how the day after one “holiday,” (ex: valentines) the very next day the stores are displaying items for the NEXT holiday (ex: st patty’s, easter).

Ah, I can’t wait for spring. I have a had a few days that felt like spring…wednesday last week was great! But for last 24 hours it has been bitter cold and windy and snow-squall-y. Joe went to Rochester to run a race (near Lake Ontario), and they had a foot of snow this morning!
I love the smell of spring and the birds chirping…that signifies spring to me.

    • 1970kikiproject  On February 25, 2012 at 2:50 pm

i am with you on the itch for spring – i think once march arrives, we can get excited! wow – congrats to joe! i bet the race was a more challenging than usual! we’re supposed to have 2-5 more cm overnight again tonight!…

I did the same thing on Thursday – took a bunch of before photos but I didn’t even bother to do the after photos on Friday. It didn’t look that different. There was more snow today than yesterday!

Signs of spring for me? When it is warm enough to go running in shorts! 🙂

    • 1970kikiproject  On February 25, 2012 at 12:21 pm

i know!!! i was surprised when i looked out this morning – where did this snow come from?!! i wonder when the first “running in shorts day” will be for you this year – i am going to say in march!! 🙂

It’s all about the daylight for me. As a dog-owner, I’m also a dog-walker. In the depths of winter, I walk in the dark both before and after work. Now? It’s light in the morning AND it’s light until 6:00! Spring is well on its way.

    • 1970kikiproject  On February 25, 2012 at 9:46 am

oh, i hear you stephanie!! it’s REALLY evident that our days our longer – here, it’s after 6 pm before it gets dark and it’s lightening up before 7 a.m. i bet it’s SO much more enjoyable for you to be out with your dog when you can SEE!!

usually the sign of spring for us is being able to make snowmen! our snow is too dry in the winter here, normally, so we need the dampness of spring to get creative with the snow! however, this winter has been so strange that we have actually been able to make snowmen a few times so far.
    enjoy the weekend!

    • 1970kikiproject  On February 25, 2012 at 9:48 am

wow – thanks for sharing that fun info about the winnipeg snow conditions, gina! it makes sense, but i had not thought that you would need spring snow conditions for better playtime fun! we got snow overnight (unexpected?!) and i think it looks like good packing snow!…hope your family has some fun weekend plans lined up!

  • Dawn  On February 25, 2012 at 9:01 am

Not much of a storm yesterday here (in Atwood) either! But, oh my, it snowed all.night.long and this morning we have a ton of snow – and it’s really blowing too. Can’t wait for spring so I don’t have to worry about icy roads while running, and so I can get out on my bike. And so I can see all the tulips and daffodils – that’s the best sign of spring to me! 🙂

    • 1970kikiproject  On February 25, 2012 at 9:50 am

yes! spring flowers are a definite joy, aren’t they! my niece, little e, has been VERY excited to show me the “sprouts” in their front flower bed the last couple weeks – i think the mild winter is confusing the flower bulbs! we got way more snow overnight, too! i am not sure that was predicted? i can imagine your country conditions are much worse. i hope the day clears up for you!!
