the perfect sunset

i knew i would not have to travel far in order to compete today’s task:

30 day photography challenge

day #12: sunset

the most beautiful sunsets can be seen right outside the condo casa windows. over the years, i have appreciated many a breathtaking view without even venturing off the couch or away from my computer.

the best location on earth to admire a sunset is in aruba:

it would be cheating to use a (march 2011) file photo, though!

the sunset topic is perfect for this time of year – we are almost at the longest day [although that makes me sad; it is all “downhill” from there on out, heading back to the shortest day in december, wah] so sunset is anywhere between 8:45-9:30 p.m. right now, depending on the ratio of sun:night sky that you wish to have.

today’s official photo:

we shall name today’s picture “sunset over construction site!”

i liked this photo because of the layers of colour and the contrast between dark and light.

here’s the back-up picture:

the sun has set!

where have you noticed amazing sunsets? a beach setting + a sunset is pretty much the ideal!

auction update: i called the local mcc office yesterday and found out that the log cabin blanket that i knit and donated for the quilt auction sold for $400. that is very nice to hear!

somehow i missed reading this post in all the craziness going on here in june… congrats on the sale of your log cabin blanket quilt! that is awesome! i think the new owner must be VERY happy to own it – very lucky, for sure! πŸ˜‰

thanks, gina! too bad i do not know WHO purchased the blanket – i would like to say thank you!! oh, your june has been so busy, i know…and there is still 1/3 of the month to go – bet your family calendar is full of more fun activities!!

    400 dollars? That’s amazing!
Funny…mr. sc and I are annoyed at ourselves that we never managed to watch the sunset when we were in New Mexico. In the UK, I just love how it stays late past 10 in the summer (of course, the winter is awful)>

    • 1970kikiproject  On June 12, 2012 at 8:39 pm

thanks, zo! and here’s an update: i just got a letter today saying that all of the quilts that were auctioned brought in over $128 000.00 for mcc!! well, you will just have to go back to nm to watch the sunsets, zo! as good an excuse as any for a trip, right?! i would not want daylight any later than about 10 pm…needs to be dark for bedtime!

I’m with you on the beach sunsets, but your construction sunset is really pretty! Awesome about the quilt!!

    • 1970kikiproject  On June 12, 2012 at 7:15 pm

thanks, stacie! i kinda liked the juxtaposition of the “soft” sunset vs the “gruff” construction site…just to be all artsy about it! πŸ™‚

I love sunsets. We used to get amazing sunsets from our patio when I lived under the big skies of Texas in Fort Worth. Our backyard faced West and there was nothing between our windows and the horizon. However, the most beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen was on the island of Santorini looking out over the Aegean.

    • 1970kikiproject  On June 12, 2012 at 4:03 pm

oh, thanks for adding yet more international flare to our sunset discussion today, johanna! wow…a sunset by the aegean…i can only imagine the sight! ok, and your description of your texas setting is pretty wonderful, too!

  • janetha  On June 12, 2012 at 12:04 pm

stunning! i am lucky because SLC has the most gorgeous sunsets over the lake–we also get really cool clouds thanks to the lake effect and the mountains, so it makes for pretty nights!

    • 1970kikiproject  On June 12, 2012 at 12:20 pm

thanks, j! oh yes – i bet you have seen a fair share of gorgeous sunsets where you are. the mountain setting is ideal!

We saw a great sunset in South Africa. We were on the ferry leaving Robben Island and heading back to Cape Town. Never thought I would see the sun setting in Africa! πŸ™‚

tricia, what an amazing life experience! (well, your trip as a whole is amazing!) – i am sure you will remember that sunset forever! how romantic! πŸ™‚

Ahhh, sunsets! I have yet to experience one in Aruba, but I can vouch for the beauty of the Gulf Coast sunsets!
    That’s great about the blanket!

Btw, your money is on its way—I’m so sorry it took this long. I am usually right on top of things like that!
I LOVE the blanket!!!! I cannot wait to give it to jimmy and diane—I love how you included the info card too. I think that makes it even more special!

lisa, florida sunsets would be my #2 favourite pick, for sure! did you see some good ones on marco island last week? naples, from the pier is another great location for sunset viewing, eh?! oh, i am glad you are pleased with the blanket! it’s just a blanket-themed kind of day today (which is funny considering it is very humid here today!).

  • Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count  On June 12, 2012 at 8:11 am

Cathy!! Congrats on the auction sale…that’s really impressive! Did you have any issues with WordPress today? Just curious because I sure did! Your sunsets are goregous! We have been sadly lacking in nice sunsets or sunrise lately here in NJ. I’m up for both and haven’t taken any photos lately. 😦 Now New Mexico, there are some wonderful sunsets and because of our “mountain top” location, the sunsets seem to go on forever…you’ll have to come see one once we’re settled!! πŸ˜‰

    • 1970kikiproject  On June 12, 2012 at 8:20 am

fran, so sorry that wordpress is being a PITA for you today – that is SO frustrating!! oh, you will for sure enjoy the nm sunsets this summer – and you will share photos with us, right?! a mountaintop location?? oh, i am so there!!!
