tick tock on the clock

photo of the day: saturday november 3rd

remember to turn back your clocks and watches tonight!

love the colours of these timex ironmans! funny: only ONE of these watches was displaying the correct time at the moment i snapped the pic!

enjoy the extra hour! i intend to sleep!

the decision to cancel tomorrow’s race was announced late friday afternoon (i heard the news from a customer who came in and said, “did you hear they’ve cancelled nyc?”). it is completely the right and appropriate course of action; however, the timing was WRONG. the powers that be should have shut down the marathon plans earlier this week. i feel badly for the runners who have trained and were excited and ready to run [manager nicole’s mom was supposed to participate], but resources need to be diverted to devastated areas where help is needed [stacie’s blog post from yesterday gives a glimpse at the state of her town]. it’s a tough situation for everyone…

in keeping with our musical tangents theme from yesterday, are you familiar with ke$ha’s tik tok? it’s in my rotation of ipod songs – so catchy! (i have a feeling i may have already linked to this song in the past!…)

I agree about cancelling the marathon. They should have done it as soon as the storm hit, the devastation was obvious. I’ve been confused since the extra hour and was really confused when it got dark early!!

fran, i love the early morning light but darkness at 5:00 pm is an adjustment! we’ll get used to it, i guess!

Yes, I’m appreciating the extra hour!
I completely agree with you about the marathon…I think people are afraid of canceling things too early (if it turns out not to be bad…), and I get how perhaps some people thought it would “rally” everyone…but it just doesn’t seem right. But, it’s a mess for those people who traveled from far away…and I know there have been complaints about runners being in hotels so that people who are stranded by the storm have nowhere to go.

it’s a no win situation because if they HAD cancelled say monday or tuesday, there would have been uproar and complaints from some quarters about that decision…for runners who did go to nyc, i hope they can enjoy some sightseeing or make the best of their time. have a great sunday, zo!

thanks for the reminder re: time change!
as for the NYC marathon… jeff and I have discussed it at length (as this was the year he was originally planning to run it!!!) we have such mixed responses to the decision that was made. my first response was like yours. Jeff agreed but also added, “why did they say the marathon was ON on Wed and THEN cancel it on friday?! people flew from all over the world for this thing! that was too wishy-washy a decision-making process. PLUS, why is NYC not canceling the NFL game tomorrow but canceling the marathon? doesn’t make sense.
anyhow, enjoy your extra hour of sleep! 🙂

gina, i wish i could have been in on the discussion with you and jeff! thanks for sharing your opinions. here is what else i was thinking: the timing of the announcement was very crafty…they delayed it just long enough to get a lot of runners/travelers into town, thereby the contribute towards hotels, restaurants etc, thereby helping the economy…THEN they cancel so now resources (emerg personnel, water etc) can be diverted to those in need. that’s my skeptical side talking! and yes, the NFL game is another issue, too. i DO hope jeff runs nyc some year!!

That is sad that the marathon was canceled, but makes sense in light of the disaster!

I have several Ke$ha songs on my “November Running” playlist. I like her “Die Young” song as well!

ooo, i’d love to know your november playlist – always fun to find new running songs! i’ve seen that a few marathons slated for tomorrow are offering discounts for nyc entrants…hopefully some runners will still get to run somewhere!
