the in-between season

photo of the day: monday november 5th

the scene: michael’s entryway, just down from theOTHERstore, this morning

what struck me when i saw these displays was that neither is appropriate, at this time – scarecrows and other fall decorations seem bygones while it’s a tad early to bring out the christmas gilt and glitter and start decking the halls. [american friends, you are in a better position because you celebrate thanksgiving in a couple weeks, so fall-ish items are still appropriate for you. our thanksgiving seems so long ago and far away!].

sidenote: if you need a fake xmas tree, they currently are on sale at michaels!!

This is a weird time of year…. for decorations. “down here” there’s always a controversy about how christmas infringes on and overshadows thanksgiving… but really, christmas decorations are more cheery!

i agree – with the red and green combos, the xmas colours are brighter than the browns of autumn…and yes, xmas decs up for thanksgiving celebrating would not seem right to me!

I was blown away by how early all the halloween and thanksgiving stuff showed up in stores…i know they’re probably all dominated by Christmas now!
I did want to buy every cute black kitty decoration I saw…and of course, now they might be on sale!

haha, that would be a great decorating theme for you, zo – black cats everywhere! i wonder how sc kittie would react to that?!! s’bux is fully into holiday season mode, i noticed this week!!

sc kittie thinks he’s very handsome, so I’m sure he’d be flattered. On the other hand, sometimes in the morning, he does get in a fight with that “other’ black cat (I have a full length mirror on a stand, so sometimes he sees himself and starts clawing!)

We are wading in water trying to get everything up off the floor and lower shelves. A boiler for the fitness center (next door to the library) blew last night and left us with a shallow lake. I shouldn’t be complaining. It’s nothing compared to what folks are dealing with in the NE USA. I’m taking a break to read blogs and dry my feet.

oh no!!! i am sorry to hear of your water woes, johanna. glad you can take a break, though! yes, it helps to put situations like this into perspective…you are facing an inconvenience, for sure, but it could be worse. i do hope things are back to normal soon, though, and that there was not too much damage.

I like to decorate for Fall and keep it up all the way through Thanksgiving which is why I don’t really decorate for Halloween. I put up a witch or a black cat here and there, but mostly it’s Fall/Harvest stuff for me. Christmas can wait…I do need a new tree…thanks for the heads up on Michael’s! I love that store. Have a great day, Cathy!
