a walk in the park

waterloo park, this morning

whenever i go for a walk through waterloo park (which is quite often, i love waterloo park), i follow the same routes. over the years, i’ve devised 30, 45, 60 minute walkabouts – i pick my paths based on how much time i have, how much walking and thinking and observing and sightseeing i want to do.

this past weekend, i got inspired to go around a favourite loop backwards! i came around a corner and poof, there was the view that you see in today’s photo. i almost stopped still in my tracks, struck by the beauty of the scene. what a different perspective on the same-old terrain! when i took the picture this morning, i was glad that today is a grey, november day – the lighting was perfect for attempting-to-be-artistic photography.

please permit a little sisterly bragging!…the brother was interviewed and featured on cbc’s the national last night (peter mansbridge introduced the story!) and also was quoted extensively in an in-depth article on the globe and mail website yesterday. the brother’s field of expertise is a hot topic right now, esp with hurricane sandy in the news. it has been quite exciting to see the brother share his research via national media!

Isn’t it crazy when you change your route how everything looks so different?!

Yay for brother—-bragging is definitely permitted and encouraged 🙂

lisa, i wish i could walk a california beach to test out my “opposite direction is so different” theory!!! the brother does not brag so i must do it for him – haha!

That is a great photo, Cathy! Interesting how familiar things can look new from a different perspective. Exciting about your brother and his interviews! Does he do autographs?! 😉

it sounds funny, but seeing the path and the bridge from the opposite direction made it seem like a completely new scene, fran! i’ll see what i can do re the autograph!…

I love that you did the walk “backwards” and got a different view.
Glad to hear your brother is continuing his invasion of the media! It’s really cool that he’s an “expert” that gets called in to talk about things!

…and the latest is that he did a radio spot for a station in victoria (british columbia) this aft!! the fun continues! i always do running routes the same way, too…maybe i should switch those up?? it’s weird how different the opposite direction makes things!!

How wonderful for “the Brother”! 🙂 I wish I knew sooner. I would have loved to see him on TV. I will have to see if the National’s website has a clip.
