a perfect day for a parade

i got to see the majority of this morning’s santa claus parade as i walked to work, and as i was working (the door of the store is seriously six feet away from the parade route). it was a fantastically gorgeous day: sunny, calm and not too cold (i saw some people standing and watching the parade in tshirts – that may have been pushing it a bit much). there was a great turn-out of watchers!

photo of the day: saturday november 17th:

theeeerrrrre’s SANTA!!!

bonus pic #1:

the view up (down?) king street – look at that blue, blue sky!

bonus parade memory #1:

i clearly remember dad taking me to the parade the year i was three years old (mom stayed at home with the [baby] brother). i remember nothing about the parade itself; what i do recall is walking to the spot where we stood and watched, and standing on the steps outside of mutual life (now sunlife) all bundled up and craning my neck to see the street. i also can picture that mom sent me vanilla wafers as a snack. the end.

bonus pic #2:

this marching band was good!! you can’t beat an invigorating rat-a-tat-tat.

bonus parade memory #2: during my first or second year of university, my then-bf and i took my then-little cousins, kate and joel, to the parade. it was freeeeezing that day! the kids were so good, and watched attentively, and we all had a good time. close to the end of the parade, poor kate’s feet were so cold that we put my mittens on her feet! after the parade, we all went to mcdonalds. the end.

tomorrow is the guelph santa claus parade and the biggie, the TORONTO santa claus parade! hope you can get out to a real, live santa parade this season – they’re lots o’ fun!

Mittens on her feet? I’ve never thought of that, but would probably do it…my feet are always cold. What great memories!

Nilla wafers and a parade sound awesome! I haven’t seen a Christmas parade in I don’t know how long. Looks fun!

it’s great fun…as long as it’s not too cold!! below a certain temp, watching on tv is definitely more enjoyable! maybe your town does a parade?? or would your boys think that would be a way-not-cool outing?!

In our town, the fire department brings Santa up and down the streets in his sleigh pulled by a fire truck. The FD marches with him giving out candy canes. It usually happens on a Sunday in December. I never know when until I hear the sirens, think there’s a fire and then I remember…Santa!!! I love the photo with the big snowman in it. Don’t know why…it’s great! Have a great Sunday, Cathy!!

fran, if you like that snowman, you would have loved the inflatable beaver that was also in the parade (i missed getting a pic). it was so cute and fun! i like your town’s idea of the fire truck + sleigh…the kids must love it!

I haven’t been to a Santa Claus parade in ages! There are a bunch of Christmas craft shows going on around here in the next few weeks. I guess…it’s…i hate to say it…but…it’s Christmas.
