Who Let the Convict Out of Jail?

Yes, that’s me.

No, I did not have a wild ‘n’ crazy Friday night full of shenanigans and debauchery.

I had to get my passport renewed, and this is the *beautiful* official photo of my to-be-issued-soon passport.

Thursday morning I put my life on hold set aside some time to go down to the Passport Office in Kitchener. In Canada, you can renew your passport in person, or mail in all the info. When I read the fine print, I noticed that if you chose the mail-in option, you had to mail in your birth certificate –NOT a copy, but the actual certificate. You think I’m letting that out of my possession? And sending it in the mail?? Think again! Despite misgivings as to how much time I would lose from my day, I chose the walk-in approach.

Wow.

Unheard of.

Here’s what the office looked like:

homey, isn't it?

I was in and out in less than 10 minutes.

The gods of good fortune must be pleased with me right now.

In four weeks or so, my new passport should be in my hot little hands, ready for action. Now, I just need a trip to Aruba the States wherever you want to pay for me to fly in order to use it!

What’s your passport photo like? I find it very hard NOT to smile, keep my eyes open and my lips together. So unnatural!

On a completely different note, Michelle and I went out to see the movie Bridesmaids last eve. I saw a preview for it the night I went out to the Empire theatres, and put it on my list of “movies to see with a girlfriend.”

This is one very funny movie.

But it’s not your standard, polished, formulaic chic flick. Bridesmaids is alternately hilarious, touching, raunchy (you can tell Judd Apatow and SNL alumni had a hand in it – plus there’s some quite crass language!) and gross. If you’ve seen this movie, you know what I mean when I say I have never been as grossed out by a scene in my life – I was laughing and groaning simultaneously! This was the perfect movie to see in a theatre because everyone was laughing and ewwww-ing together throughout the film. Michelle and I laughed a lot. Bridesmaids truly has a unique vibe with an unscripted feel, sometimes uneven (not in a bad way) tone, and non-famous (as in A list) cast. I’ll go with a *** star rating on this one. Take a pass if you’re conservative or get offended easily, though. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve seen this one already!

What current movie do you want to see next? Movie-going on the long weekend is very popular – our theatre was full!

Happy Saturday!

My passport photo sucks. For one thing I weighed 80# more than I do now and my hair was long and slicked back. I’m not sure they’d let me cross a border with it now. My driver’s license is the same thing. I really should get a new one with a more current pic but I don’t want to take the time or spend the money.

Wow! You would look like a different person, johanna! Although I wouldn’t spend the money for a new photo, either. We need a fingerprint system – no photos at all!!!

Oh, goodness. I have to admit that I did get a good chuckle from your picture. What can I say? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one like it. Not to say that mine is any better. They made me take my glasses off so it doesn’t even look like me.

I’m dying to see bridesmaids- not dying per se, but you get it, right? Is it the female version of the Hangover? There are a few older movies I’d like to see as well: Rabbit Hole and The Fighter. With nicer weather here, I’m not sure how much movie watching I’ll get in, though.

well, if you ever hear of a contest for “most wretched passport photo,” do let me know, ok, nicole?! or maybe that could be a shower game some time…prize for Photo Most Likely to Scare a Baby!

yes, take your husband or a girlfriend and see the movie…judd apatow is a producer and you can definitely tell his touch is on this one! well, if we keep getting all this rain, maybe you’ll feel a movie evening if we can’t be outdoors!

Your passport photo is hilarious! Mine is not too much better. I look angry in mine, and I’m anything but angry! Use your renewed passport and come visit Texas. 🙂

I saw Bridesmaids earlier in the week with a girlfriend and Billy crashed and came, too. It was hilarious, but you said it right – totally raunchy and gross. Loved the cast!

Oh, I would sooo love to visit you and see texas!! Some day!… (And thanks for the invite!).
You, angry? That I cannot imagine! 🙂
Glad billy could go! The title “bridesmaids” may keep some guys away, but it’s not a conventional chic flick, so guys will find it funny, too!

    Totally want to see Bridesmaids!
My passport’s due for renewal in about a year. My hair was super short when I had the photo taken for the last one..I was tan because it was the end of summer. Now my hair is longer and I’m usually pale..so it’s pretty different from how I look now!

do let me know if/when you see “bridesmaids” – would love to hear your review! whew, at least you have a year to go still…the whole process is quite a pain (at least in canada).

I’m glad you liked Bridesmaids! I heard it was funny but you just never know.

My passport photo is from college and although it isn’t the best picture, it does look like me!

i definitely suggest “bridesmaids” (a wedding theme is fitting for you, today!) but not for the easily offended! if you like SNL you’ll like this one!
